A top adviser for Mitt Romney confirmed conservatives’ greatest fear yesterday:
If Governor Romney makes it to the general election he will abandon conservatives and return to his moderate and progressive roots.
Here’s what his senior adviser, Eric Fehrnstrom, told CNN in an interview, when asked if the conservative positions Romney was taking in the primary would weaken his appeal to independents:
“You hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all over again.”
Hit a reset button? Everything changes?
(By the way, shaking up your views in a general election to pander to voters is a losing strategy, Mr. Romney. We conservatives will abandon you… and yes, YOU need us! We don’t need you!)
Romney is only “severely conservative” when it’s convenient to win votes. We’ve seen Romney run for office before on a pro-abortion, pro-gun control, and pro-tax increase platform…
…can you trust him not to change his mind again?
P.S. If Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination and abandons conservative principles, you better have your money and property in a safe place, out of the reach of this government… regardless of who wins in November 2012.
